Types of Polynomials

You have already learned about the polynomials in the previous article. Now we are going to learn the types of polynomials.

What are the types of polynomials?

The following are the types of polynomials on the basis of the number of terms they are containing.

Monomial

The polynomial with only one term is called a monomial. A number or a product of a number and a variable.

Example:

3x2

Binomial

The polynomial with the two-term is called binomial. Two monomials are connected by + or –

Example:

3x2 + 4x
Trinomial

The polynomial with three-term is called trinomial. Three monomials are connected by + or –

Example:

4x3 + 3x2 + 2x
Constant polynomial

The polynomial containing only the constant term is a constant polynomial.

Linear polynomial

A polynomial of the degree one is called as linear polynomial

Example:

4x-1
Quadratic Polynomial

A polynomial of degree two is called Quadratic polynomial.

Example:

5x2-4x+2
Cubic Polynomial

A polynomial of degree three is called a cubic polynomial.

Example:

3x3+4x2+5x+6
